Elijah's Message

- One of the most important messages of our time is the message of Elijah, but what is Elijah’s message. We can see from the book of Malachi 4.10 that in the last days the prophet Elijah must come and turn the hearts of the people to their fathers and the hearts of the fathers to their children. Lest I strike the earth with a curse!

A strange message, and one that appears to be all about the family, or is it?

When we look at the family unit, it is key to the divine plan of God, one where a loving father cares for his children, and a devoted wife and kids care for their father, the father figure gives the rules and we all obey. Well not quite the man and women work together, and while the man is the one who is in charge the woman calls all the shots.

When the loving family unit works well, girls don’t prostitute themselves, they love and respect their fathers too much to do that. Boys want to make their mom proud. Hard work, and Judean Christian ethics are considered paramount to a long and successful life.  It functions as a microcosm of God’s care and love.

Is this the message of Elijah? It makes sense, that when we have a strong family (and extended family) bond that blessings follow, and clearly this is part of Gods, plan, yet today we are far from this plan. But is this the whole story of Elijah and the message?

John the Baptist was a type of Elijah (Lu 1.17), and yes part of the message was family unity. But he was also to prepare a people, to get us ready to meet our maker.

And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. [Luk 1:17 KJV]

The voice of one who cries in the wilderness (like Elijah), today there is a wilderness out there, there is a void, not many ministers are preaching the truth of God, the values of God, the law of Moses.

In Zechariah five, it speaks of the curse, that is sent out on the whole land, it also speaks of the two witnesses, the two olive trees, symbolic of the anointing oil of God, messiah (messhuak, me soak, to anoint with oil).

There is much to unpack here – Babylon the world system will come crumbling down, the dollar the stock market.

Points of Elijah

  • Voice of one crying in the wilderness
  • Level to mountains and valleys preparing the way of the Lord
  • Elijah and Moses types are the two witnesses
  • Ability to strike the earth with a curse
  • Curse of Elijah/Moses
  • Message at a time when Israel is apostate
  • Fights against the Jezebel spirit
  • Lies, fraud, theft, homosexuality, prostitution is rife
  • Israel forgets who their maker is
  • Turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the children to the fathers

Somehow homosexuality, theft, lying is common place now and almost acceptable to just as today we have the breakup of the family, lack of respect for parents etc. this along with a preoccupation with sex, the occult, and the general hedonistic lifestyle. Isn’t this what happening when someone deserts God, kick off the restraints and does what he feels is right in his own eyes and embrace   debauched, pleasure seeking lifestyle.

(John 3.4-6) born of the Spirit.
